Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which rose 5.41% or 0.34 points to trade at 6.62 at the close. K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT) added 4.70% or 0.43 points to end at 9.57 and Whitecap Resources Inc . (TSX:WCP) was up 4.68% or 0.47 points to 10.52 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 4.20% or 32.79 points to trade at 747.23 in late trade. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) declined 3.75% or 1.21 points to end at 31.03 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 3.67% or 0.50 points to 13.11.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 536 to 505 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.42% to 10.89.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.96% or 18.80 to $1,967.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 6.82% or 6.43 to hit $100.72 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 6.35% or 6.25 to trade at $104.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.79, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.47% to 0.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 100.31.
