Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Materials, Consumer Discretionary and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which rose 6.03% or 9.90 points to trade at 174.17 at the close. Air Canada (TSX:AC) added 3.18% or 0.71 points to end at 23.18 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX) was up 2.68% or 0.27 points to 10.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which lost 6.62% or 0.390 points to trade at 5.500 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 5.91% or 1.83 points to end at 29.12 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) shed 5.76% or 0.33 points to 5.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 603 to 401 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.20% or 39.45 to $1755.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $72.62 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.34% or 0.26 to trade at $75.72 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.29% to 0.7890, while CAD/EUR rose 0.15% to 0.6705.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 92.847.
