Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the IT, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC), which rose 3.32% or 1.23 points to trade at 38.28 at the close. Africa Oil Corp (TSX:AOI) added 3.10% or 0.09 points to end at 2.99 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) was up 2.94% or 0.36 points to 12.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which lost 8.03% or 3.85 points to trade at 44.08 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 7.09% or 0.20 points to end at 2.62 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) shed 6.09% or 0.14 points to 2.16.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 518 to 457 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.35% to 11.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.46% or 9.05 to $1,971.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.61% or 0.46 to hit $75.75 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.23 to trade at $79.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.58% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 100.54.
