Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which rose 6.67% or 0.28 points to trade at 4.48 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 5.40% or 1.700 points to end at 33.160 and Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K) was up 4.68% or 0.31 points to 6.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Finning International Inc . (TSX:FTT), which lost 6.63% or 1.53 points to trade at 21.55 in late trade. Gran Tierra Energy Inc (TSX:GTE) declined 5.82% or 0.110 points to end at 1.780 and Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ) shed 5.17% or 0.030 points to 0.550.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 586 to 476 and 99 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.67% to 14.23.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.75% or 26.80 to $1556.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.09% or 1.15 to hit $53.95 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.03% or 0.02 to trade at $58.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6830.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 98.938.
