Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV), which rose 4.74% or 0.37 points to trade at 8.18 at the close. Africa Oil Corp (TSX:AOI) added 3.26% or 0.09 points to end at 2.85 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) was up 2.92% or 0.22 points to 7.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spartan Delta Corp (TSX:SDE), which lost 64.11% or 9.61 points to trade at 5.38 in late trade. Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u) declined 11.05% or 0.85 points to end at 6.84 and Telus International Cda Inc (TSX:TIXT) shed 4.04% or 0.82 points to 19.48.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 561 to 390 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.19% to 11.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.18% or 3.45 to $1,944.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.92% or 1.37 to hit $72.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.63% or 1.24 to trade at $77.14 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.54% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 101.67.
