Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Materials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were WPT Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust (TSX:WIR_u), which rose 15.87% or 3.75 points to trade at 27.38 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 6.72% or 1.31 points to end at 20.81 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 5.71% or 1.06 points to 19.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which lost 7.20% or 0.440 points to trade at 5.670 in late trade. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) declined 6.92% or 0.135 points to end at 1.815 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) shed 6.13% or 0.36 points to 5.51.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 599 to 411 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.79% or 31.55 to $1731.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.17% or 1.48 to hit $66.80 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 1.46 to trade at $69.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.18% to 0.7951, while CAD/EUR rose 0.02% to 0.6773.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 92.953.
