Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the REITs, Industrials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS), which rose 2.92% or 1.76 points to trade at 61.98 at the close. Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u) added 2.43% or 0.93 points to end at 39.21 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) was up 1.94% or 0.30 points to 15.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI), which lost 3.17% or 0.14 points to trade at 4.28 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) declined 3.08% or 0.12 points to end at 3.78 and Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u) shed 2.64% or 0.70 points to 25.78.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 500 to 390 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.99% to 11.32.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.45% or 8.90 to $1,962.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.58% or 0.42 to hit $71.51 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.52 to trade at $76.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 102.11.
