Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP), which rose 2.94% or 0.40 points to trade at 14.00 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) added 2.87% or 0.050 points to end at 1.790 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 2.77% or 0.30 points to 11.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM), which lost 9.19% or 0.520 points to trade at 5.140 in late trade. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) declined 7.01% or 0.450 points to end at 5.970 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) shed 6.61% or 0.320 points to 4.520.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 567 to 508 and 106 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.87% to 12.52.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.85% or 27.85 to $1478.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.06% or 1.71 to hit $54.20 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.07% or 0.04 to trade at $59.44 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7554, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6932.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 99.040.
