Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Telecoms, Clean Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.21% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO), which rose 9.94% or 0.34 points to trade at 3.76 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) added 6.06% or 0.260 points to end at 4.550 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) was up 5.26% or 9.270 points to 185.350 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TO:TCLa), which lost 8.95% or 2.66 points to trade at 27.05 in late trade. GENIVAR Inc . (TO:WSP) declined 5.21% or 3.82 points to end at 69.52 and Aphria Inc (TO:APH) shed 4.44% or 0.950 points to 20.430.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 557 to 498 and 144 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.75% to 14.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.19% or 2.30 to $1202.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $67.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.72% or 0.55 to trade at $77.05 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.26% to 0.7589, while CAD/EUR rose 0.29% to 0.6565.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 95.34.
