Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 10.86% or 0.39 points to trade at 3.98 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 10.69% or 8.68 points to end at 89.89 and Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) was up 5.06% or 1.00 points to 20.78 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI), which lost 4.49% or 1.68 points to trade at 35.75 in late trade. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) declined 4.08% or 1.19 points to end at 27.95 and Dundee Precious Metals Inc (TSX:DPM) shed 4.07% or 0.37 points to 8.72.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 545 to 395 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.25% to 11.74.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.33% or 6.45 to $1,966.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.38% or 1.94 to hit $83.57 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.81% or 1.54 to trade at $86.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR rose 0.89% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.49% at 103.60.
