Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Telecoms and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM), which rose 8.20% or 0.57 points to trade at 7.52 at the close. Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) added 6.10% or 0.38 points to end at 6.61 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) was up 5.05% or 2.87 points to 59.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS), which lost 5.07% or 3.14 points to trade at 58.80 in late trade. TC Energy Corp (TSX:TRP) declined 4.70% or 2.39 points to end at 48.50 and Air Canada (TSX:AC) shed 4.14% or 1.06 points to 24.52.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 502 to 458 and 135 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.30% to 11.05.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.21% or 4.10 to $1,966.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.10% or 0.87 to hit $79.61 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.71 to trade at $83.19 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 101.02.
