Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Staples and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD), which rose 5.58% or 1.160 points to trade at 21.960 at the close. Nevsun Resources Ltd . (TO:NSU) added 4.51% or 0.120 points to end at 2.780 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) was up 3.64% or 0.100 points to 2.850 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Empire Company Ltd (TO:EMPa), which lost 4.67% or 0.98 points to trade at 20.01 in late trade. ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI) declined 4.29% or 0.070 points to end at 1.560 and Loblaw Companies Limited (TO:L) shed 3.54% or 2.40 points to 65.33.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 591 to 500 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 23.58% to 12.16.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.63% or 8.34 to $1330.54 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.21% or 0.10 to hit $47.33 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.10 to trade at $52.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.75% to 0.8071, while CAD/EUR rose 1.13% to 0.6803.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 92.79.
