Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Healthcare and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD), which rose 15.77% or 0.38 points to trade at 2.79 at the close. Enerflex Ltd . (TO:EFX) added 7.34% or 1.17 points to end at 17.10 and Gran Tierra Energy Inc . (TO:GTE) was up 7.11% or 0.180 points to 2.710 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb), which lost 5.38% or 1.52 points to trade at 26.73 in late trade. Firstservice Corp (TO:FSV) declined 5.16% or 4.31 points to end at 79.27 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) shed 5.02% or 0.230 points to 4.350.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 576 to 524 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.94% to 11.57.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 5.70 to $1327.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.24% or 1.08 to hit $49.31 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 0.82 to trade at $55.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.12% to 0.8211, while CAD/EUR rose 0.71% to 0.6907.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.57% at 92.41.
