Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Consumer Staples sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which rose 6.80% or 1.03 points to trade at 16.18 at the close. Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA) added 6.03% or 0.96 points to end at 16.87 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 5.89% or 0.76 points to 13.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML), which lost 4.21% or 0.11 points to trade at 2.50 in late trade. North West Company Inc (TSX:NWC) declined 3.94% or 1.61 points to end at 39.24 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) shed 3.92% or 0.30 points to 7.36.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 509 to 458 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.88% to 12.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.38% or 28.95 to $2,124.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.55% or 1.24 to hit $78.73 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.89% or 0.74 to trade at $82.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.24% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 103.79.
