Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Financials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA), which rose 12.93% or 2.20 points to trade at 19.22 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 7.30% or 1.88 points to end at 27.63 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) was up 4.33% or 0.22 points to 5.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS), which lost 3.90% or 0.14 points to trade at 3.45 in late trade. Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) declined 3.14% or 0.73 points to end at 22.55 and MTY Food Group Inc (TSX:MTY) shed 3.03% or 1.82 points to 58.32.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 546 to 449 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 11.10% to 10.97 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.44% or 8.85 to $1,999.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.12% or 0.87 to hit $78.74 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 1.03 to trade at $82.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.45% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 101.08.
