Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Energy, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM), which rose 14.06% or 1.69 points to trade at 13.71 at the close. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) added 11.82% or 0.50 points to end at 4.73 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 8.68% or 1.56 points to 19.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:GFL), which lost 3.61% or 1.60 points to trade at 42.72 in late trade. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) declined 3.57% or 0.64 points to end at 17.28 and Trisura Group Ltd (TSX:TSU) shed 2.72% or 1.21 points to 43.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 508 to 431 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.13% to 12.84.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.82% or 19.10 to $2,362.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.10% or 0.87 to hit $78.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.79 to trade at $82.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.15% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 104.90.
