Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Real Estate, REITs and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which rose 6.11% or 0.50 points to trade at 8.69 at the close. Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) added 5.96% or 1.66 points to end at 29.50 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) was up 5.57% or 0.22 points to 4.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which lost 4.64% or 2.31 points to trade at 47.49 in late trade. InterRent REIT (TSX:IIP_u) declined 3.42% or 0.46 points to end at 13.00 and ECN Capital Corp (TSX:ECN) shed 2.83% or 0.15 points to 5.15.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 537 to 506 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.81% or 15.95 to $1954.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.14% or 0.06 to hit $42.18 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.05 to trade at $44.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.27% to 0.7541, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6370.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.24% at 93.090.
