Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Staples, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 10.06% or 2.750 points to trade at 30.090 at the close. Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) added 6.95% or 11.180 points to end at 172.010 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 5.75% or 0.440 points to 8.090 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC), which lost 7.66% or 0.77 points to trade at 9.28 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 5.40% or 0.21 points to end at 3.68 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TO:AEM) shed 4.29% or 2.42 points to 54.03.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 587 to 541 and 130 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.97% to 14.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.49% or 6.50 to $1316.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.50% or 0.34 to hit $68.44 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.80 to trade at $74.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.09% to 0.7792, while CAD/EUR rose 0.37% to 0.6450.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 91.62.
