Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Utilities and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were K92 Mining Inc (TSX:KNT), which rose 11.88% or 0.67 points to trade at 6.31 at the close. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) added 6.85% or 1.23 points to end at 19.18 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) was up 6.02% or 0.13 points to 2.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Quebecor Inc Class B (TSX:QBRb), which lost 4.26% or 1.41 points to trade at 31.69 in late trade. Transcontinental Inc (TSX:TCLa) declined 3.98% or 0.56 points to end at 13.51 and Cogeco Communications Inc (TSX:CCA) shed 2.56% or 1.81 points to 69.03.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 519 to 461 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.84% to 13.04.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.09% or 1.65 to $1,930.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.91% or 0.67 to hit $73.19 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.78% or 0.61 to trade at $77.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.36% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 101.62.
