Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Clean Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which rose 6.61% or 1.07 points to trade at 17.25 at the close. Topaz Energy Corp (TSX:TPZ) added 5.85% or 1.19 points to end at 21.54 and Dundee Precious Metals Inc (TSX:DPM) was up 5.13% or 0.50 points to 10.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which lost 8.56% or 0.63 points to trade at 6.73 in late trade. Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) declined 6.47% or 9.95 points to end at 143.85 and Descartes Systems Group Inc (TSX:DSG) shed 5.98% or 7.34 points to 115.39.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 495 to 454 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.56% to 12.49.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.52% or 11.15 to $2,137.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.76% or 0.60 to hit $78.14 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.78 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 103.73.
