Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Energy, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which rose 8.09% or 0.84 points to trade at 11.22 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) added 6.88% or 0.38 points to end at 5.90 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 4.04% or 0.23 points to 5.92 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which lost 4.56% or 1.01 points to trade at 21.12 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 3.35% or 0.85 points to end at 24.52 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX) shed 2.98% or 0.64 points to 20.82.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 499 to 460 and 121 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.30% to 11.44.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.35 to $1,952.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.32% or 1.19 to hit $89.29 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.24% or 1.17 to trade at $93.17 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 105.03.
