Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Materials, Telecoms and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.01% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which rose 5.69% or 1.24 points to trade at 23.04 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 4.97% or 0.17 points to end at 3.59 and CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE) was up 4.50% or 1.41 points to 32.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO), which lost 5.46% or 0.40 points to trade at 6.93 in late trade. Park Lawn Corp (TSX:PLC) declined 3.67% or 0.85 points to end at 22.34 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) shed 3.58% or 0.70 points to 18.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 548 to 419 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.69% to 12.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.62% or 11.95 to $1,923.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.16% or 1.75 to hit $79.24 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.90% or 1.61 to trade at $83.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.00% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 103.36.
