Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG), which rose 6.55% or 1.12 points to trade at 18.22 at the close. Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K) added 6.07% or 0.39 points to end at 6.81 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TSX:AEM) was up 5.57% or 3.93 points to 74.47 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which lost 5.34% or 0.97 points to trade at 17.19 in late trade. Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) declined 5.29% or 2.03 points to end at 36.34 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) shed 5.22% or 1.27 points to 23.06.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 622 to 383 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 9.83% to 15.09.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.93% or 38.55 to $2,038.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.21% or 0.17 to hit $80.59 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $84.87 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.59% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 101.24.
