Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 2.13% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL), which rose 69.86% or 1.46 points to trade at 3.55 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 25.37% or 0.170 points to end at 0.840 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) was up 22.50% or 0.36 points to 1.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which lost 7.06% or 1.27 points to trade at 16.73 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI) declined 3.93% or 0.41 points to end at 10.03 and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) shed 3.76% or 1.98 points to 50.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 829 to 283 and 82 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.23% or 38.50 to $1688.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 4.62% or 1.73 to hit $39.14 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 5.00% or 2.00 to trade at $41.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.47% to 0.7440, while CAD/EUR rose 1.00% to 0.6596.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 97.002.
