Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML), which rose 8.03% or 0.11 points to trade at 1.48 at the close. Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) added 7.81% or 2.28 points to end at 31.48 and Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX:CIGI) was up 7.69% or 9.49 points to 132.97 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which lost 1.93% or 0.39 points to trade at 19.81 in late trade. Maple Leaf Foods Inc . (TSX:MFI) declined 1.82% or 0.52 points to end at 28.13 and Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) shed 1.60% or 0.370 points to 22.720.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 680 to 367 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.77% or 13.25 to $1728.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.57% or 2.11 to hit $61.27 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.04% or 1.91 to trade at $64.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.03% to 0.7963, while CAD/EUR fell 0.27% to 0.6766.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 92.965.
