Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Energy and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Paramount Resources Ltd . (TSX:POU), which rose 12.00% or 3.84 points to trade at 35.83 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 10.15% or 0.79 points to end at 8.57 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) was up 8.57% or 1.75 points to 22.17 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG), which lost 25.14% or 0.91 points to trade at 2.71 in late trade. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) declined 14.36% or 1.32 points to end at 7.87 and Home Capital Group Inc . (TSX:HCG) shed 8.87% or 2.88 points to 29.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 768 to 248 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.02% to 23.41.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.74% or 13.90 to $1,884.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 5.29% or 5.42 to hit $107.83 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 5.00% or 5.25 to trade at $110.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.85% to 0.79, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.09% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.93% at 102.54.
