Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which rose 13.80% or 0.810 points to trade at 6.680 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 11.69% or 0.270 points to end at 2.580 and Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TSX:VII) was up 10.03% or 0.35 points to 3.84 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX:TECKb), which lost 2.53% or 0.48 points to trade at 18.48 in late trade. Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) declined 2.16% or 0.33 points to end at 14.93 and Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u) shed 2.06% or 0.75 points to 35.65.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 777 to 282 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.57% or 10.90 to $1918.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 6.32% or 2.34 to hit $39.39 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 5.65% or 2.22 to trade at $41.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.32% to 0.7538, while CAD/EUR fell 0.26% to 0.6395.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 93.493.
