Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD), which rose 8.08% or 0.08 points to trade at 1.07 at the close. Topaz Energy Corp (TSX:TPZ) added 6.29% or 1.27 points to end at 21.47 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 5.16% or 0.24 points to 4.89 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb), which lost 8.23% or 0.26 points to trade at 2.90 in late trade. Nutrien Ltd (TSX:NTR) declined 4.60% or 5.69 points to end at 118.11 and Home Capital Group Inc . (TSX:HCG) shed 4.19% or 1.25 points to 28.58.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 649 to 337 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 11.43% to 17.55.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.43% or 7.50 to $1,736.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.39% or 1.21 to hit $88.00 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.49% or 1.38 to trade at $94.22 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.35% to 0.77, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.41% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 108.08.
