Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Telecoms and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.07% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO), which rose 14.66% or 0.59 points to trade at 4.63 at the close. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) added 10.11% or 1.69 points to end at 18.41 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG) was up 6.37% or 0.93 points to 15.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Petroleum Corp (TSX:IPCO), which lost 8.06% or 1.33 points to trade at 15.17 in late trade. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) declined 3.43% or 0.37 points to end at 10.42 and Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) shed 2.24% or 0.59 points to 25.73.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 735 to 267 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.05% to 10.71 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.62% or 33.00 to $2,071.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.19% or 1.66 to hit $74.30 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.19% or 1.77 to trade at $79.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.49% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.59% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.16.
