Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Energy and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.05% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 13.78% or 1.25 points to trade at 10.32 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 11.72% or 0.49 points to end at 4.67 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) was up 10.49% or 1.68 points to 17.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which lost 50.18% or 5.59 points to trade at 5.55 in late trade. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) declined 7.18% or 3.65 points to end at 47.16 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) shed 5.37% or 0.13 points to 2.29.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 790 to 223 and 89 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.55% to 20.76.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 2.06% or 35.40 to $1,754.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.16% or 0.16 to hit $97.10 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.57 to trade at $102.24 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.22% to 0.77.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 106.06.
