Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Suncor Energy Inc (TSX:SU), which rose 13.11% or 3.70 points to trade at 31.92 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 8.80% or 1.76 points to end at 21.76 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) was up 7.38% or 124.06 points to 1805.73 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mullen Group Ltd . (TSX:MTL), which lost 6.13% or 0.84 points to trade at 12.86 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI) declined 5.77% or 0.59 points to end at 9.64 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) shed 4.10% or 0.290 points to 6.790.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 594 to 434 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.18% or 3.15 to $1801.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.13% or 0.11 to hit $82.77 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.27% or 0.23 to trade at $83.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.10% to 0.8102, while CAD/EUR fell 0.53% to 0.6935.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 93.350.
