Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.98%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which rose 12.59% or 4.27 points to trade at 38.18 at the close. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) added 8.79% or 6.98 points to end at 86.43 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) was up 8.58% or 0.47 points to 5.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included TransAlta Renewables Inc. (TSX:RNW), which lost 8.83% or 1.59 points to trade at 16.41 in late trade. Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) declined 5.59% or 0.99 points to end at 16.72 and TransAlta Corp (TSX:TA) shed 5.41% or 0.74 points to 12.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 738 to 313 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 20.23% to 17.89.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.22% or 21.90 to $1820.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 4.15% or 3.25 to hit $81.48 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 3.65% or 2.95 to trade at $83.82 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.82% to 0.7950, while CAD/EUR rose 0.51% to 0.6996.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 95.635.
