Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, Utilities and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.97%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB), which rose 26.63% or 8.93 points to trade at 42.46 at the close. Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) added 10.39% or 0.40 points to end at 4.25 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 10.31% or 0.43 points to 4.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which lost 23.94% or 8.05 points to trade at 25.58 in late trade. Telus International Cda Inc (TSX:TIXT) declined 4.86% or 0.98 points to end at 19.19 and Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) shed 3.40% or 0.31 points to 8.81.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 639 to 350 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.40% to 12.61.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.37% or 26.50 to $1,963.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.44% or 1.08 to hit $75.91 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.12% or 0.89 to trade at $80.29 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR fell 0.82% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.17% at 100.22.
