Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which rose 8.62% or 0.45 points to trade at 5.67 at the close. Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) added 7.68% or 0.63 points to end at 8.83 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) was up 7.86% or 0.68 points to 9.33 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lundin Mining Corporation (TSX:LUN), which lost 10.55% or 1.195 points to trade at 10.135 in late trade. Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS) declined 4.01% or 6.13 points to end at 146.69 and Denison Mines Corp (TSX:DML) shed 3.89% or 0.07 points to 1.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 579 to 457 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.83% or 14.65 to $1783.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.44% or 1.74 to hit $73.03 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 1.40 to trade at $74.91 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.88% to 0.8092, while CAD/EUR rose 0.44% to 0.6791.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.38% at 91.855.
