Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Consumer Discretionary and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinross Gold Corporation (TSX:K), which rose 10.83% or 0.47 points to trade at 4.81 at the close. Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TSX:PEY) added 4.99% or 0.57 points to end at 12.00 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) was up 4.49% or 0.36 points to 8.37 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:CTS), which lost 2.72% or 0.16 points to trade at 5.73 in late trade. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb) declined 2.64% or 0.07 points to end at 2.58 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) shed 2.18% or 0.09 points to 4.03.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 571 to 410 and 122 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.06% to 21.83.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.06% or 1.05 to $1,684.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.47% or 0.40 to hit $85.16 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.55 to trade at $91.90 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.75.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 109.37.
