Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, Industrials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ), which rose 5.06% or 1.64 points to trade at 34.05 at the close. Mattr Corp (TSX:MATR) added 4.82% or 0.77 points to end at 16.76 and Dollarama Inc (TSX:DOL) was up 4.23% or 5.23 points to 129.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB), which lost 6.52% or 1.74 points to trade at 24.95 in late trade. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) declined 6.10% or 5.53 points to end at 85.16 and Canadian Western Bank (TSX:CWB) shed 4.20% or 1.11 points to 25.33.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 568 to 365 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.26% to 8.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.75% or 17.80 to $2,348.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.85% or 0.66 to hit $77.25 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.50 to trade at $81.38 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.41% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.30% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 104.58.
