Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.85% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Barrick Gold Corporation (TSX:ABX), which rose 11.25% or 4.03 points to trade at 39.84 at the close. Corus Entertainment Inc (TSX:CJRb) added 10.88% or 0.31 points to end at 3.16 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) was up 8.65% or 1.40 points to 17.58 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX), which lost 5.75% or 0.50 points to trade at 8.19 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 5.44% or 0.770 points to end at 13.390 and Exchange Income Corporation (TSX:EIF) shed 5.29% or 1.73 points to 31.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 636 to 418 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 2.27% or 44.25 to $1994.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.98% or 0.83 to hit $42.84 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.53 to trade at $45.33 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.56% to 0.7579, while CAD/EUR rose 0.29% to 0.6383.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 92.802.
