Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Utilities and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which rose 9.89% or 1.40 points to trade at 15.55 at the close. Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) added 9.30% or 0.20 points to end at 2.35 and Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB) was up 8.55% or 0.87 points to 11.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which lost 4.32% or 1.06 points to trade at 23.50 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 3.38% or 0.30 points to end at 8.57 and Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) shed 3.36% or 0.12 points to 3.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 596 to 406 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.64% to 17.10.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.57% or 10.15 to $1,805.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.80% or 2.17 to hit $79.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 4.40% or 3.56 to trade at $84.54 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.43% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.23% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.01.
