Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Consumer Discretionary, IT and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII), which rose 7.90% or 11.11 points to trade at 151.70 at the close. Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD) added 5.76% or 1.12 points to end at 20.55 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) was up 5.24% or 0.33 points to 6.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spartan Delta Corp (TSX:SDE), which lost 3.13% or 0.15 points to trade at 4.65 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 3.07% or 0.40 points to end at 12.62 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) shed 2.93% or 0.18 points to 5.96.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 505 to 439 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.68% to 11.61.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.56% or 10.80 to $1,923.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.26% or 1.57 to hit $67.80 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.27% or 1.69 to trade at $72.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR fell 0.73% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 102.13.
