Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Real Estate, IT and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tricon Capital Group Inc (TSX:TCN), which rose 27.30% or 3.18 points to trade at 14.83 at the close. Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) added 7.62% or 2.94 points to end at 41.53 and Trisura Group Ltd (TSX:TSU) was up 4.68% or 1.56 points to 34.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which lost 9.91% or 0.67 points to trade at 6.09 in late trade. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) declined 7.01% or 0.46 points to end at 6.10 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TSX:BIR) shed 5.36% or 0.28 points to 4.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 555 to 400 and 111 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.62% to 12.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.49% or 10.00 to $2,031.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.53% or 0.39 to hit $73.56 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.29 to trade at $78.81 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.42% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.25% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 103.04.
