Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Energy, Industrials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.67% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which rose 13.86% or 11.66 points to trade at 95.77 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) added 9.04% or 0.150 points to end at 1.810 and Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) was up 8.16% or 0.12 points to 1.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:ZZZ), which lost 13.17% or 2.89 points to trade at 19.06 in late trade. Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG) declined 6.03% or 0.80 points to end at 12.47 and Detour Gold Corporation (TSX:DGC) shed 3.34% or 0.73 points to 21.14.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 625 to 413 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.80% to 10.72 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.85 to $1516.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.67% or 1.99 to hit $56.17 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.37% or 2.01 to trade at $61.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.18% to 0.7611, while CAD/EUR rose 0.08% to 0.6816.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 97.018.
