Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, REITs and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES), which rose 8.06% or 0.47 points to trade at 6.30 at the close. Spartan Delta Corp (TSX:SDE) added 6.99% or 0.79 points to end at 12.09 and NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA) was up 6.75% or 0.66 points to 10.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed Commerce Inc (TSX:LSPD), which lost 6.49% or 1.70 points to trade at 24.49 in late trade. Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) declined 5.60% or 0.15 points to end at 2.53 and Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd . (TSX:AEM) shed 5.15% or 2.68 points to 49.32.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 510 to 499 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.73% to 22.34.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.59% or 10.15 to $1,717.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.13% or 2.02 to hit $96.72 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.78% or 1.75 to trade at $100.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.59% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.49% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 106.31.
