Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 7.27% or 1.05 points to trade at 15.50 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) added 5.30% or 0.49 points to end at 9.73 and Headwater Exploration Inc (TSX:HWX) was up 5.27% or 0.36 points to 7.19 in late trade.
Biggest losers included TFI International Inc (TSX:TFII), which lost 4.28% or 5.37 points to trade at 120.23 in late trade. Granite REIT (TSX:GRT_u) declined 4.13% or 4.03 points to end at 93.57 and Boardwalk REIT (TSX:BEI_u) shed 3.74% or 2.21 points to 56.85.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 523 to 520 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.82% to 15.21.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.47% or 9.00 to $1,932.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 4.51% or 4.48 to hit $103.75 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 3.50% or 3.65 to trade at $108.04 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 0.80, while CAD/EUR rose 1.10% to 0.73.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 98.96.
