Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Consumer Staples and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.58% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE), which rose 11.59% or 2.19 points to trade at 21.09 at the close. Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF) added 8.99% or 0.250 points to end at 3.030 and FirstService Corp (TSX:FSV) was up 6.74% or 9.36 points to 148.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD), which lost 13.25% or 5.86 points to trade at 38.38 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 5.16% or 0.145 points to end at 2.665 and Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) shed 5.04% or 0.310 points to 5.840.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 615 to 396 and 145 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.50% or 7.85 to $1570.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.59% or 0.30 to hit $51.05 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.31% or 0.17 to trade at $55.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.05% to 0.7525, while CAD/EUR rose 0.12% to 0.6853.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 98.355.
