Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.54% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC), which rose 10.21% or 2.56 points to trade at 27.64 at the close. BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) added 10.13% or 10.77 points to end at 117.10 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) was up 9.41% or 0.585 points to 6.805 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which lost 5.25% or 8.44 points to trade at 152.40 in late trade. BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) declined 4.27% or 0.63 points to end at 14.12 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) shed 3.39% or 0.88 points to 25.07.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 520 to 448 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.24% or 4.35 to $1811.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.69% or 1.16 to hit $69.75 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.69% or 1.21 to trade at $72.80 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.52% to 0.7965, while CAD/EUR rose 0.21% to 0.6707.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 92.222.
