Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.49% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:SEA), which rose 9.27% or 2.23 points to trade at 26.28 at the close. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) added 9.01% or 0.210 points to end at 2.540 and MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) was up 8.04% or 1.73 points to 23.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP), which lost 14.81% or 2.86 points to trade at 16.45 in late trade. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) declined 8.90% or 0.945 points to end at 9.670 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) shed 6.76% or 1.14 points to 15.72.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 637 to 441 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.74% or 32.30 to $1891.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.32% or 0.63 to hit $48.45 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.94% or 0.48 to trade at $51.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.17% to 0.7857, while CAD/EUR fell 0.40% to 0.6404.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.72% at 89.707.
