Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Element Fleet Management Corp (TO:EFN), which rose 7.85% or 0.45 points to trade at 6.18 at the close. Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) added 7.13% or 0.33 points to end at 4.96 and Enbridge Inc. (TO:ENB) was up 7.06% or 3.10 points to 47.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which lost 5.28% or 2.140 points to trade at 38.420 in late trade. Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) declined 4.33% or 0.110 points to end at 2.430 and Aphria Inc (TO:APH) shed 3.42% or 0.420 points to 11.870.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 673 to 425 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.35% to 13.57.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.26% or 3.30 to $1254.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.24% or 0.91 to hit $74.36 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 1.54 to trade at $79.15 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.87% to 0.7613, while CAD/EUR fell 0.12% to 0.6515.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.82% at 94.22.
