Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.47% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED), which rose 8.84% or 2.630 points to trade at 32.370 at the close. Aphria Inc (TO:APH) added 7.97% or 1.490 points to end at 20.190 and BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) was up 6.91% or 0.97 points to 15.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG), which lost 4.33% or 0.75 points to trade at 16.56 in late trade. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) declined 3.86% or 0.460 points to end at 11.470 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) shed 2.64% or 0.080 points to 2.950.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 650 to 471 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 11.14.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.77% or 10.10 to $1319.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $60.38 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.31 to trade at $66.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.39% to 0.8000, while CAD/EUR fell 0.12% to 0.6630.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.47% at 91.56.
