Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Utilities, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 4.90% or 0.15 points to trade at 3.21 at the close. SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) added 4.52% or 0.47 points to end at 10.87 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) was up 3.82% or 0.27 points to 7.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS), which lost 7.14% or 4.31 points to trade at 56.03 in late trade. Africa Oil Corp (TSX:AOI) declined 4.05% or 0.10 points to end at 2.37 and Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) shed 3.21% or 1.65 points to 49.83.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 493 to 454 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.99% to 15.29 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.22% or 5.25 to $2,403.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.66% or 0.55 to hit $83.28 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.10 to trade at $87.21 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 105.96.
