Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS), which rose 7.88% or 1.27 points to trade at 17.39 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) added 7.81% or 0.25 points to end at 3.45 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) was up 7.76% or 0.19 points to 2.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Allied Properties REIT (TSX:AP_u), which lost 8.91% or 1.74 points to trade at 17.78 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 4.58% or 4.93 points to end at 102.70 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) shed 3.74% or 0.95 points to 24.47.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 682 to 303 and 87 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.96% to 11.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.20% or 4.05 to $2,071.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.45% or 1.86 to hit $73.99 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.02% or 1.63 to trade at $78.92 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 102.90.
